Can you share a bit about yourself?
I am an Indian, living in the States for 13 years now. I was always inclined towards arts since I was a child. I honed my artistic skills further by getting my bachelor’s and post graduate degree in Textile Designing (in Printing) focusing on cultural art forms and traditional motifs of India. I am a mother of one beautiful 9 yo boy named Abeer. My utmost interest lies in interior design, and I spend most of my time cleaning, organizing and decorating my place. I love to be a homemaker when I am not working as a henna artist. I take one day at a time and that helps me get through most of the challenges that life throws at me. I am a firm believer in God, and for me the best way to worship Him is to do good deeds, and do your small part as a person in this world!

How did your journey began?
My first experience as an artist as I remember was when I used to draw henna motifs on my mother’s hands for festival celebrations in India as a little girl. Art came naturally to me and I was the go-to person for henna needs in all family weddings and festivities. At the same time, I was getting a lot of praise at school exhibitions and art contests as well which made me realize that I wanted to pursue my career in this field. After working as a textile designer for 3 years in India, I moved to US for family. But life came full circle when a friend asked to do henna for a wedding. I became that little girl again who used to draw henna lines on the palms of her mother, aunts and sisters while growing up in India. I reconnected with my passion and holding the henna cone felt like meeting an old friend. It was as if we never left each other and that made me realise that this is my true calling. I started “Henna by Pallavi” as an expression of my inner artist and it quickly became something bigger than life itself for me. I currently work from New Jersey, US and use my passion for henna art to celebrate happiness, good omens and new beginnings in people’s lives.
If you weren’t doing this, what do you think you’d be doing?
I would be working as a “Textile Designer” in any company.
What’s a random fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I am a neatnik and often end up wiping chairs in a row at the airport while waiting for flights. My compulsive cleaning can give Monica from sitcom Friends a run for her money!
What’s the best piece of life advice you’ve ever received?
Life is too short to be unhappy or disappointed and that every day is a new beginning. And no failure can be bigger than You! Keep renewing yourself to be able to do better. And the rest will fall into place!
What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in your journey, and how did you overcome them?
My journey as a henna artist was very difficult in the beginning, as it must be for everyone out there, trying to put their foot forth and firm in the wedding industry. From winning clients and until rendering the service along with protecting yourself from all sorts of demotivating factors is a challenge. But perseverance and hard work started paying off after few years and I got a space for my own art in the world of henna!
What are your dreams or goals?
I want to keep learning art in any form throughout my life. I want to make everyone happy that I come across, through this journey of Henna Art. For me, making others feel good on their big day is the only goal of my profession. I want to share all what little knowledge I have with everyone out there.
Are there any upcoming projects you're excited about?
I just got done with Springfling Conference 2025. It was an honor to be on the team of Instructors. I always look forward to such opportunities where I get a platform to share my ideas, knowledge and experience making people’s life better.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting out?
Perseverance is the key. Love what you do and connect your heart with your art. Let it flow in your bloodstream and give your passion enough time. Never ever give up and accept all the challenges that life throws at you with enough grace and patience. There is always some light at the end of the tunnel. If you’re struggling with something today, you will only get a a better place tomorrow. That is nature’s hierarchy!
