Can you share a bit about yourself?
Hi, I’m Nuryn, a graphic designer and creative at heart. I started doing henna at 9 and turned it into a career by 18. My style blends geometric, Moroccan, and architectural influences, with a focus on intricate designs. With 10 years of experience, I’ve also taught henna workshops and been featured in local publications.

Name: Nuryn Eddy (29)

How did your journey began?
When my usual Indian henna artist at the traditional markets wasn’t available for Eid, my mum encouraged me to purchase a cone and try it myself. With a cone in hand and only memory to guide me, I gave it a shot. An hour later, I had more than just a design—I had discovered a passion! What started as a simple attempt became a yearly tradition, creating henna for myself, family, and friends. At 18, I met Ira (@zubhahenna) and Eka (@eshennafix), who connected me with Syra—one of Singapore’s finest henna artists. I had admired her beautiful and innovative designs for years, and she soon became my mentor, guiding me into the industry and helping me refine my craft at a professional level. These people are integral to my henna journey and I love them to bits!❤️

If you weren’t doing this, what do you think you’d be doing?
I’d still be creating—whether through illustration, graphic design, painting, or another creative medium.

What’s a random fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
Back in polytechnic, when I started henna professionally as a side hustle, I’d rush to henna appointments straight after class, laptop in hand. Brides were always surprised to see an 18-year-old walk in—they were expecting a typically mature Indian lady, not a student who had just finished a lecture!

What’s the best piece of life advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t fear mistakes—they’re proof that you’re learning and growing. It’s better to try and fail than to never try at all.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in your journey, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was self-doubt—wondering if I was good enough or if people would take me seriously, especially when I started young. I overcame it by pushing forward, taking every opportunity to improve, and reminding myself that every expert was once a beginner. Another challenge was balancing my studies with henna appointments, often rushing straight from class with a laptop in hand. Time management and passion kept me going, and looking back, those moments shaped my journey in the best way possible!

What are your dreams or goals?
My dream is to redefine henna artistry by blending tradition with creativity, making it more than just an art form but a meaningful experience. I want to build a brand that inspires and empowers others—whether it’s aspiring artists finding their voice or clients connecting with designs that tell their stories. Through teaching, collaborations, and innovation, I hope to leave a lasting impact—not just on skin, but in the hearts of those I create for.

Are there any upcoming projects you're excited about?
I’m thrilled to be collaborating with 10 amazing small businesses in Perth for a special Ramadhan project! We’ve been working behind the scenes, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone soon. Stay tuned—something exciting is coming!

What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting out?
Just start, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes—they’re part of the journey. Keep practicing, stay curious, and never stop learning. Seek inspiration everywhere, but develop your own unique style and give credit where it’s due. Most importantly, believe in yourself and your craft—your passion will set you apart!

I’m incredibly grateful for this journey—from a spontaneous Eid tradition to a full-fledged passion. Henna has not only allowed me to express my creativity but also connect with amazing people along the way. To anyone chasing their dreams, remember: every expert was once a beginner. Stay curious, keep creating, and never underestimate where passion and perseverance can take you!
